I love NASA as much as the next guy, but Bill is right on target here. I understand that the only way humanity, or the earth's biosphere in general, can survive and perpetuate is to leave the ties that bind and walk with the stars.

However, the only way that the United States of America can ensure its participation in such events is if it gets the ball rolling here at home. Before we go to Mars, let's fix the deurbanization of our cities. Before we send another research mission in to space, let's set aside some money to get a proper scientific and math education to our students. Before we dump endless reserves of cash into defense projects and military/aerospace operations why don't we solve that little fiscal crisis thingy.

Just think about it.
